I Love TV

Hi my name is Alyssa, and I am a TV addict.

As a child I was pretty censored in what I was allowed to watch on TV.  My choices were pretty much limited to Disney Channel, TGIF (if your a born in the 80’s child I don’t need to explain what this is to you) and Nickelodeon. I was only allowed an hour of TV time a day…and half of the time at school I had no idea what TV shows people were discussing.  I remember asking around the age of 12 if I could watch “The Simpsons” and the immediate “No you cannot” response that I got from my mom and step-dad.  On the weekends I was with my dad (typical split custody agreement) I gorged myself on the TV I wasn’t allowed to watch at home….and lots of it.  Being censored and restricted so much is probably a big reason why I feel the need to watch so much trash TV (which I love BTW) and TV in general now that I am an adult.

The invention of the DVR is the single greatest thing to ever have been invented….ever….second only to the 4 channel recording at once Tivo (yes this actually exists).  I remember well the days of having to set several VCR’s to record on multiple TV’s to be able to catch all the shows I wanted to watch because they weren’t available online or at the touch of a button.  What a beautiful day that was, when the Comcast man brought me my first DVR.  Technology rocks!

What shows do I like you might ask?  Well my answer to that would be, just about everything.  I hate sports as does Mr. Squish so you won’t ever find anyone watching sports in this house….however most everything else is fair game.  Of course I like the girly shows…like Sex and the City, and the Real Housewives.  I’m completely obsessed with Bethany Frankel…I literally stalked out her apartment when we lived in New York in the same neighborhood.  It took all my will power to not stand out front until I got her autograph.  I love birth shows, but DUH 😛 .  Call the Midwife is one of my favorite shows to have ever been made which is a British show that is now on PBS.  It’s amazing, you should watch it.  Hoaky teen shows are another passion of mine…yes I watch the horribly acted and ever so addicting Secret Life of the American Teenager as well as many of the CW shows like Hart Of Dixie and 90210.  Yes I, a 30 year old women watch teenager shows.

I probably watch more trashy reality TV then anything else and I love it.  Gypsy’s are ridiculous and so are Dance Mom’s.  There is literally NO ONE on Teen Mom that can properly strap in their kid it seems like, and Jerseylicious is a dramafest of entertainment.  I cried when ER went off the air and when Mark died on Grey’s Anatomy, and wanted to literally throw things at the TV (and the producers) when the final episode of Lost was aired.  Even my children have names from TV/movies.  Anyone who knows me REALLY well (and even those who just know where Seven gets her name from) will tell you I am a huge SciFi nut.  Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Warehouse 13, Eureka, Lost Girl, Being Human….really any show on SyFy and I am in.  We also love shows about learning stuff.  Most of my friends can tell you that I watch WAY to much Discovery channel and now have a giant list of places I will never visit and reasons why I will not set foot into water that isn’t encased in cement and filled with a shit load of chlorine.

Don’t forget movies….I also LOVE movies and OnDemand/Amazon Prime/Netflix was also an AMAZING invention!  I recently watched Les Misrebles (half a dozen times in 48 hours) and it was quite literally breathtaking.  We love comedy’s and I have roughly 72 total hours of movies stored on our Tivo…from Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon to Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken and Witch Slayer Gretel (I swear to the FSM that is the name of a movie I have saved).  We love cult classics…like Space Balls and History of the World.  Killer Klowns from Outer Space is still one of my favorite B movies ever.  I can’t help but be compelled to watch Final Destination 1-99 and then The Final Destination just to see if they EVER change the plot (they don’t).  We even purchased “The Underground Comedy Movie” when we were newly married…worst movie I’ve ever seen, seriously YIKES!  I could literally go on forever about the movies and TV shows I like so I’ll just end with this, I love TV.

<3 This post! We recently started watching Vampire Diaries and Being Human-Vampire Diaries is my new favorite. I TOTALLY agree about all the Teen Moms-drives me crazy no one teaches them how to use a carseat properly! We don't get any TV where we live-too far away from the transmitters apparently in this town. We have Hulu+ and Netflix subscriptions and watch a lot 🙂

The Internet streaming in high school was insane. Of get three hours of sleep while I watched you upon hour of lost and greys anatomy. 🙂
