New year, same “me”.

Resolutions, are not my thing. Let me start over. New Year Resolutions, are not my thing. I know I’ve made some in the past, when I was much younger. Typical things like, eat healthier, get better grades, stop drinking soda etc. All great ideas, I’m sure. As I have gotten older that particular “tradition” hasn’t resonated with me. Don’t get me wrong, I am not advocating that no one changes a thing about themselves, no one sets any goals for their future, or that we all just remain static through the years. I am all for goals. I have plenty of them. I just don’t see the point in waiting until ONE specific date to lay it all out for myself. In the same way that I think people are wasting their time when on Wednesday they say “Diet starts on Monday!”. Why? Why not stop eating fast food and drinking your energy drinks right now? By Monday, you’ll be in full swing of your “diet” and on the right track. There is no sense in waiting. Not for me, anyway. That’s just not my style. I’m not a super patient person anyway, so if I wanted to get started on something new in my life, I would struggle to wait for any amount of time to begin.

I do have goals for this year. They don’t have a specific start date as most of them are dependent on factors out of my control. I’m striving for a peaceful delivery of my baby, to sell my home in MI and buy a wonderful new home in Indiana, and I am hoping to adjust to being a mommy of 3 without too many meltdowns (from me). If I can accomplish these three things in the coming months, I will call 2014 a success for us.

This year in particular, ringing in 2014 was just about as anticlimactic as watching paint dry. We put the kids to bed at their regular time, and we immediately began binge watching Breaking Bad on Netflix. This is our usual nightly routine for weeks now. We didn’t watch the ball drop, we didn’t reflect on our year, we didn’t resolve a thing. 2013 was an absolute whirlwind for both of us, and you know what? January 1, 2014 was no different. The day started, and ended the same. I’m not complaining about that by any means. Right now, I don’t have time or energy to put toward much of anything other than staying patient with my two young ones, and making sure my house doesn’t cave in around me. New baby will be here in mid-February, and there is plenty to get in order before then (see: everything!).

If any of you made a resolution, I would love to hear it. I wish you all luck in sticking to your new habits and reaching whatever goal you have set for yourself! I’ll leave you with a picture of my hubby and I ringing in the New Year, last year.
