Harper is pretty much a EBF baby, so we don’t own a bunch of bottles. All the bottles I do own are glass though. Even if the packaging says “BPA free,” I have a hard time believing that there isn’t a small amount of chemicals being released into the product Plus I am not a good hand washer, so everything goes straight into the dishwasher. I have really no compliants about the glass bottles and they have worked really well the last few times we have used them. Now that Harper is getting older, I did want to start investing in a bottle that will last (not break perhaps) and could transition into a sippy. On one of my trips to Target, I stumbled upon a nine-ounce stainless steel bottle made by Organic Kidz. I had a gift card, so I swooped it up. It is a wide-mouth bottle and can be used with pretty much any wide-mouth nipple (I bought the 9+-month bottle so had to use the Avert nipple we had on hand). Since I have started using this bottle it has been Harper’s favorite.
*The bottle is light weight and shatterproof
*It is dishwasher safe
*It keeps warm liquid warm for longer and cold liquid colder. It is not too hot or cold to the touch
*The lid has measurements also that can be used as a little snack holder
*It is available at Target for about $8, so no need to wait for it to ship like other “specialty” bottles
*The nipple opening is compatible with other wide-mouth brands
* There are handles and a sippy top that can be purchased to transition it to a “big” kid cup
*The stainless steel is not see through, so it can make it difficult to know how many ounces were used. The measurement gauge is in the inside of the bottle, so the top needs to be removed to check it.
*Liquids are better warmed prior to being placed in the bottle. I use expressed milk in a baggy, so it has not caused issues for us. I have not tried warming anything directly in the bottle.
*The bottle itself is not super pricey at $8 a bottle, but the handles are another $8 and the sippy tops are 2 for $5… therefore that can get pricey.
Overall, I really like the product. As I mentioned, we are pretty much exclusively breastfeeding, so we don’t use lots of bottles on a daily basis. If I was, I don’t know if I would stock my cupboard full of them because of the price alone. I am glad I bought it and will probably buy a few more since they will be great to use as a sippy, especially in the Arizona summer when a cold drink of water is needed.
