The Best Gift – Received and Giving

Alyssa- The best gift I’ve ever received is pretty much a toss up.  Last year my mother in law bought me all kinds of orange stuff…including an entire set of ORANGE fiestaware dishes which I LOVE and a new stand mixer when my old one pooped out on me.  My Best Friend also knows me to the T and buys me really great orange or Cheshire Cat stuff every year.  This year I already know I am getting one of those super expensive professional grade Vitamix’s from my mother in law which i am so super pumped for.  The only thing that could top that would be the orange Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron Skillet.  The best gift I’ve ever given was a couple of years ago one of my friends online had a foster child.  I believe she was 9 or 10 at the time and all she wanted for Christmas was a Nintendo DS, but they just couldn’t afford to spend that kind of money when they had many other children to buy for. The girl had, had a really hard life and a Nintendo DS was such a small thing to ask for after all that she had been through.  They sent out a request on facebook for anyone who might be willing to sell then a used DS for a very cheap price.  We had just gotten a 3DS and the old DS was just collecting dust so we decided it had a better use.  I messaged my friend and told her we would love to send her foster daughter the DS at no cost.  We also threw in a $100 gift card to game stop so she could go pick out any games or accessories that she wanted.  When Christmas came my friend messaged me about how excited her foster daughter was to see a package under the tree with her name and that it was exactly what she asked for.  It felt so good to know that we were able to put a smile onto the face of a sweet little girl whose life has been anything but.

Kelli-I wish I could say that the best gift I’ve ever received was something meaningful or exceptionally special, but I can’t. In reality, I think my favorite gift I’ve ever been given for Christmas was the Kitchenaid Stand Mixer my husband and in-laws gave me a few years ago. I use it frequently, and love how easy it makes so many different kitchen tasks. The best gift I’ve ever given anyone else is probably the calendars I made a few years ago for our parents and grandparents. It was a lot of work, and honestly kind of stressful for me, but they turned out so beautifully and were something our loved ones could look at everyday. They loved seeing the kids’ smiling faces throughout the year.

Risa- The best gift I recieved was Harper. I know that may be cheating a tad because she was born 18 days before Christmas . We had been trying to get pregnant for 10 months so I asked for her for almost two years. Having her here and in my arms was the only thing I wanted, as cheesy as it may sound, she was really the best gift ever. Now as far as the best gift given… I am usually a really good gift giver but I think that my favorite gift I’ve given is to my sister in law. She is actually one of my favorite people to shop for. I know her taste really well and we shop a lot together so I have a hard time refraining from buying her stuff most the time. Last year I got her a one-of-a-kind piece of art a friend of mine did that I knew she would just LOVE. This year she got the epiciest of all epic gifts from me. The gift of organization! I am an extremely organized person and she is not. She really wants to be but she was struggling with the intial excutation since was really attached to a lot of her things. Plus, she is pregnant and it all seemed really overwhelming. This year I serviced her the act of organizing a few of her rooms. I was able help her set up systems in her living room and kitchen that will hopefully tame some of the chaos for her. I purged and cleaned for her and I know it was really helpful. It made me feel so good to give her the ability to not stress out and sit back and get something done for her! I am hoping to tackle her craft room but she isn’t allowed to be there for that one 😉

Misty- The best gift I have ever received for Christmas would be my camera. My husband bought me my Canon Rebel T3i 2 years ago & I fell in love with it right away. My camera has captured so many wonderful moments that have happened in my life. It’s my most cherished possession. Not because of it’s worth, but because of it’s value. I have been able to take beautiful moments & make them last forever with that camera. It has become a wonderful hobby of mine.
My favorite gift to give is any gift that I give to my Grandmother. She is close to 90 now. I don’t get to see her as much as I would like to. Any gift I give her means the world to her. She doesn’t ask for much…pictures of the kids, mostly, & it warms my heart to make her so happy.

Jessica – my favorite gift that I have ever received (which is currently underway) is the gift of a farm. Okay, it’s not totally a gift, but we are buying it in conjunction with Jed’s dad and his fiancée and their help has made this dream an unbelievable reality. It will be my children’s future. It will be my dream come true. I know I will be weary and worked to the bone, but my goal of no GMOs and a healthy, sustainable life for my family is just within reach. This “gift” will change our lives forever.
The best thing I have ever given as a gift? That’s pretty difficult. Jed is terribly difficult to buy for. I love giving gift baskets filled with homemade goodies and thoughtful small gifts that show the recipient that I know them and made an effort to get something personal for them. Last year we had aluminum prints from PostalPix that we gave to all the grandparents. I’m thinking we might have to do that again

Xza- I much rather give than receive, I have been gifted some pretty amazing things and I include Atticus within that category as the best gift I have eve received. It may sound cheesy, silly and strange, but he is my little ray of sunshine that I adore and love endlessly!

So happy for the great gifts you have received ladies–especially for you Risa! Indeed, there could be no better gift than the gift of having a child and being a mother. Merry Christmas to all of you. 🙂

I would LOVE the gift of organization! That is at the very top of my list when it comes to a “New Year Resolution”. I’ve been browsing online trying to find ideas and accessories to help me on my journey.. Seems like such an overwhelming task!
