Greetings. I am 30 yrs. old. I was born and raised in Geneva, IL. I moved to Tempe, AZ at 21 years old., attended Arizona State University. I am mommy to a 2.5 yr. old boy (Karate Kid), step mom to 15 yr. old girl (Karate Girl), and wife to my ninja husband (Karate Daddy). My husband is a martial arts instructor. He holds 2, 5th degree black belts and 4, 1st degree black belts in various martial arts. He is an NRA certified instructor, has worked with the Army on weapons retention tactics, and teaches concealed carry classes… he is basically a ninja, or Robocop, whichever you prefer.
I went to school with Alyssa. We grew apart after the beginning of high school, and recently rekindled our friendship. It was like we never skipped a beat and we are the best of friends. Karate Kid and SquishyBaby are like 6 months apart, and they are the best of buds and the greatest enemies. It makes for very fun playdates.
I met Karate Daddy at a bar. He was the hot bouncer . We were preggo 6 months later and married a month after we found out about Karate Kid. I planned my wedding in 2 weeks and it turned out amazing. We were married September 11, 2010 and I got on a plane September 12, 2010 and he got in the car…Hi ho, hi ho its off to Illinois we go.. We gave up all of our belongings and set off to start our new family in Illinois, with my family close by and our Karate Girl, sorely missed, behind in AZ with her mom. It was one of the hardest decisions we ever had to make.
I am a witty, sarcastic and punchy gal. I have a great sense of humor (I believe) and I love to make jokes. I am pretty easy-going, OCD to a fault, and very spontaneous. I will be cleaning the kitchen and then all of a sudden get the urge to rearrange the living room, which leads to so many more household projects.
I am not one to sugar coat anything and I am normally very blunt. That tends to get me in trouble on occasion. I am stubborn and hard-headed, but at the same time I will do anything for anyone…even those who may not deserve it. All my life all I ever wanted to be was a mommy. When I found out I was going to be I was full of all sorts of emotions, naturally. Little did I know the journey to motherhood would be full of speedbumps and forks in the road.
I am not an attachment parent. I do enjoy baby wearing, but it is not something I live and breathe. I will do more of it with baby #2, when the time comes. I am naturally minded person, I set out to birth naturally, breastfeed and not vaccinate… I was only successful in one of these endeavors. I am kind of the black sheep of my family because I only partially vaccinated my child and don’t really do meds or antibiotics, unless absolutely necessary. I get some flack for it, regularly. I am not my mother or grandmother that is one thing I know for sure.
I hope to share my birth journey at some point, as it really has a profound effect on who I am today. My delivery and first few weeks of motherhood are something I would not wish upon my worst enemy, but they are in the past and have provided me with the drive and desire to seek out something more personal, natural and comforting for next time around.
Before Karate Kid I was a runner. I was an avid outdoors woman. I loved to hike Camelback Mountain, go to the gym in the morning and evening, and I completed my first full marathon, 26.2 miles in 4:42, 6 months before becoming pregnant. After Karate Kid I do nothing of the sort. I miss it all terribly, especially the working out. I need to make it a priority in 2014. I am a pretty open book. If I really think about it, there is nothing I wont talk about…Not sure if that is a bad thing or not but that’s who I am!
I am a car seat and baby gear enthusiast…So Alyssa and I are a match made in heaven. I love to talk gear! New gear on the horizon is to me like, between! Some of my favorite brands are Peg, Baby Jogger, Nuna, Clek, UppaBaby, Ergo, Beco…I think you get the picture.
(Did I mention I really like punctuation!)
I have clothed diapered my son since 4 months of age. I have used everything from Sunbaby to Sloomb and many others in-between. Karate Kid potty trained himself like 3 months ago so my precious fluff gets no love anymore. I even have really nice woolies too, boooooo. Oh well, guess that means we have to have another little squishy baby!
I suffered a loss this past April, and have not been successful becoming preggo since, so that is another goal on our 2014 calendar. I think Karate Kid needs to be a big brother, if I must 🙂
So that is about all I got for you today. I am so excited to go on this journey, make new friends and learn a lot of new stuff along the way. I like sisterhoods and I really believe there is a strong sense of that here. Woman supporting Woman is a beautiful thing, unless you are in a woman’s prison…. Orange is the new Black.
Please feel free to let me know if my humor is in fact humorous, or if I brightened your day at all by making light of the monotonous cycle of being a mom… Which I can say I am loving! (most days)
