Quinoa Burgers with “Fancy Sauce”

Since becoming vegetarian I realllyyy miss burgers. Especially during grill season. I found a recipe for cheesy quinoa burgers on Pinterest and modified the recipe slightly. The results are amazing. The sauce is pretty good too. Anything sauce that required more than like 3 ingredients I consider fancy—hence the name “fancy sauce” 😉 The burgers stay together and do not fall apart like most veggie burgers. YOU MUST MAKE THESE!

Quinoa Burgers

  • 2 cups cooked quinoa (I used tri-colored from Trader Joe’s)
  • 1/2 cup shredded/grated/crumbled cheese (I used mozzarella)
  • 2 green onions sliced and chopped
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • salt and pepper to tast
  • oil for frying

Fancy Sauce (Sweet and Spicy garlic aioli)

  • 1/2 cup mayo
  •  1/2 fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  •  couple dashes black pepper
  • 1 tsp agave nectar

*** Really I didn’t measure for the sauce, I do everything to taste but those are general guidlines)

Cook and cool the quinoa. Once cooled, mix everything together for the burgers in a medium bowl.

Form patties and cook in heated oil until browned on both sides. I had the oil on med/high and cooked several minutes on each side. Cool on a plate lined with paper towel to get the extra grease off.

For the sauce, throw everything in a food processor or small mixer. Blend until smooth.

I served my burgers on onion buns with thinly sliced red onion, white cheddar cheese and fancy sauce. They were out of this world! for real- even meat eaters won’t find fault with this burger.
