Atticus is getting SO BIG! And so is MommyCon…. My two babies. If you asked me a year ago if I thought MommyCon would be such a big thing, I would be pretty skeptical. Actually, back in April, I had doubts after a semi-poor turnout in Phoenix, my spirits were a bit frazzled. It wasn’t a terrible event, but it was much smaller than what I would have liked to see. Then all of a sudden, my inbox was flooded. Austin was a month away and I was seeing 30 registrations per day. We sold out at 300 tickets sold, and between Laney, Alyssa and myself we were finally seeing all of our hard work paying off.
Between Austin and Philly, we had two months “off.” I spent this time between Michigan and hopping on and off planes around the country planning for 2014. My inbox remained flooded with ticket inquiries for Philly and we sold out 6 weeks in advance with 300 tickets sold. I was able to contact the venue and expand our space in order to have 500 people in attendance, and we sold out again 1.5 weeks prior to the event.
Portland is next week, and once again we find ourselves hosting a sold our crowd. Our LA event is the week after, and we are lucky enough to have space for 2500… I don’t foresee us getting that big, but it’s nice to know that we have the space if we need it. Following LA is Kansas City where we have space for about 700.
Right now my heart is racing as I am equal parts nervous and excited for LA, and completely blown away by the response to MommyCon. Next year we have venues booked to hold 1000+ adults (remember, for every three adults there is one child). I am so grateful to be the one traveling on this journey. Laney and Alyssa have been rocks the last 6+ months, and with three events in the next six weeks, I think it’s safe to say that we have earned some pampering come November.
If you have attended a MommyCon or plan to, thank you for being part of this community. It’s amazing what we can do when we all work together.
